Pope Francis' 'Fratelli Tutti' moves us to respond to our sister or brother in need, whoever they are, wherever they may come from (FT, 72). We are challenged to turn outwards, to act as neighbours, and to reach out to all those who are in need. 

In school, we believe that KINDNESS is very important.

Our children are regularly involved in events that are held in aid of both our local and wider global communities and enjoy helping others.   As a Catholic school we have a duty to ensure that all our pupils understand how to care for and respect our local and global communities; becoming confident, caring, helpful stewards of God's creation. 

Our children and families are always keen to support us in helping others who are perhaps less fortunate than ourselves; together we act for a better tomorrow for everyone.

Living so close to the countryside is a priledge yet, this can also lead to families feeling  isolated as services can be difficult to get to with the current transport services. We know that can be very difficult, yet we are very fortunate as we have the community hall that we use to support the local community.

We also regularly use our facebook site  to sign post to local support and services.

 

Greggs breakfast club foundation

We are extremely lucky to be part of Greggs Breakfast Club Foundation as they help to pay for the food for breakfast club, which allows us to offer breakfast free to all children.

Supporting School meals

To support our families, with the current cost of living,  we have funding now to  subsidise the cost of children's meals to half price. This will hopefully help all families to have a very Merry Christmas.

Community drop in

Today we had our first drop in session and what a lovely success it was.

We were joined by Credit Union, Citizen Advice and Social prescribing who were able to help some of our local community whilst enjoying a cuppa.

Digital Poverty

The digital poverty alliance is a charity that provides families with a laptop for their children who may not otherwise have access to one.

They are currently providing laptops for children in 5 areas around the UK and West Cumbria is one of them. They are looking for families in need who have children aged 4 - 16 who would benefit from a laptop at home.

Baby sensory

St. Joseph's day celebrations.

Today, 19th March.  we celebrated St. Joseph's day in school. all of the children came in red. We all attended mass as a whole school and then invited parents and families into school for a coffee afternoon where the children made St. Joseph's day cards which were given out to the parishioners at mass on Sunday, which they were delighted with.

Santa dash for Mary's Meals

Our school community enjoyed a Santa Dash to raise money for Mary's Meals.

Mary's meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future.  Please click here if you would like  further information. 

Singing in local care home

A fantastic group of our Key stage 2 children visited a care home  in Whitehaven to perform some carols they have been learning.  The residents had a fantastic afternoon and were calling for an encore!! The adult and the children had a great time together! The staff commented upon the lovely manners that the children had and the residents couldn't wait to have a little chat. One resident commented,  'Well, that has made my Christmas, Thank you!"

Christmas jumper day for Hospice at home

                                          

The children enjoyed coming into school today in their Christmas Jumpers to raise money for West Cumbria Hospice at Home.

This afternoon they sat down to enjoy their Christmas lunch with crackers, colouring and Christmas music.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

 

In November, we support the wonderful Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal!

Poppies and other items are available to purchase from school. All donations go to The British Legion.

Remembrance service

 Some of the children from school read at the remembrance service. They then joined the community of Frizington to lay a wreath at the cenotaph on Frizington Main Street.

Local Celebrity Chef workshop - eating on a budget

We are excited to announce that John Crouch, Celebrity Chef held a cookery demonstration and tasting session in the community hall on the 13th October. 

He used affordable ingredients to make delicious food that can be replicated at home. It was lovely to see parents and people from the village and parish attending :)

 

The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick

The children and parent volunteers worked so hard today on ‘The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick’ in our village. It was so lovely to see them so committed to helping clean up and improve our local area. We are very proud of them. They worked extra hard and were proud of the difference that they had made to the village.

St. Joseph's Feast Day coffee morning for Ukraine Aid

Thank you so much for attending our St Joseph's Day celebrations. It was lovely to be able to welcome you back into school. We made a total of £136 that will be sent to Ukraine Aid.

A very big thank you to our parent helpers without whom we could not run such events.

Parish art exhibition

We were delighted to host the Parish Art Exhibition in the Community Hall.

Non uniform for Operation Christmas child

This year (2021) at St Josephs, we are going to be contributing to the wonderful idea of ‘Operation Christmas Child’. This is where a shoebox is given to children in areas outside the United Kingdom who are affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease, through their church on Christmas day.
Each shoe box needs a donation of £5. So on the 8th November we are having a non-uniform day, where everyone can also bring in their donations of gifts and money. A suggested donation would be £1, but you may donate what you wish. We will make as many shoe boxes as we can afford with your donations. Each class will put together their boxes and add letters from the class to make our boxes extra special. If you would also like to make a box from your family, feel free to do so and bring to school with a £5 donation.

Class 1 will be filling boxes aimed at children aged between 2-4
Class 2 and 3 will be filling boxes aimed at children aged between 5-9
Samaritan’s Purse is the charity who organize this event and they ask for these items to not be included:
DO NOT INCLUDE Toothpaste, sweets, lotions and liquids; used or damaged items; war-related items; seeds, gum, chocolate or food items; religious or political literature; medicines, aerosol cans, sharp or fragile items. Thank you. Also if you have any spare shoeboxes, please send them in.

Operation Christmas Box

A big thank you to everyone who donated gifts and money for our Operation Christmas child boxes, we have them all packed and ready to drop off next week. The children loved picking what to put in each box, thought carefully about what ages they were picking for and showed such care and thoughtfulness. It is lovely to think that we have made Christmas Day a more enjoyable experience for families all over the world who wouldn’t have received anything. So thank you again, your generosity has been amazing. (November 21)
